When things stop being Epic πŸ™…

Happy Tuesday Reader,

I don't know if anyone else feels like this:

My whole creative business journey thus far has been a progression of seeking increasingly bigger missions.

I started out in music production. A very fun niche, and helping people with their creative expression is extremely important!!

But it's usually quite a light topic.

Some time later, I started making content online about productivity and mental health.

These things were at the front of my mind, and I wanted to be able to help both myself and others with them. And I still do.

But I wasn't really sure how I could turn those things into an income. I didn't think becoming a coach or something like that would be suitable for me.

Now, as a copywriter, I'm on a wider mission to help creatives with their business. To help put what they do into words so they can sell their offers.

This still seems like a big, heavy mission. Money and marketing are heavy, emotional topics for many of us.

I feel as though I need to repeatedly tone down my mission and make sure I'm not dreaming "too big". Otherwise I start having a lot of doubts β€” these things are important to me, but who am I to try and address them?

Writing good copy for other creatives feels like a manageable thing that I can accomplish.

It becomes more difficult if I start making it more epic, like helping people overcome creative blocks, make lots of money, or improve their self-esteem. Not that I can't do those things, but it's a lot of responsibility!

I've been reading about wellbeing in activism recently.

Research shows that when we look at an abstract, scary problem and focus only on how massive and complex it is, we tend to feel a lot of powerlessness and grief.

A problem like "many creatives have low self-esteem and struggle to talk about their work" feels massive and complex for little ol' me to solve.

However, when we turn our attention to the small, local steps we can take to address the problem, we feel more in control of the situation, less anxious, and more motivated to keep up the fight.

I've been applying this mindset to my work. So far, that looks like making package offers I can sell.

Like content repurposing.

Or these new brand copy kits that I've just put together.

Turning my attention to small, concrete things I can offer, rather than an epic overlying mission, feels much easier to act on.

Is there anything you relate to with this? Reply and let me know.

Much love,

Damon

How's it going, Reader? May is gonna be a fantastic month, I'm calling it now! How about we take a moment to look at what's coming up and what we wanna focus on? Making it easier to say yes to what you do A useful question to ask yourself right now is: If someone discovered my website or saw my content today, would they immediately understand what I do and how to work with me? If not, that's a really good place to start. You're already familiar with your work, so it's easy to forget that you...

How's it going Reader? I thought I'd do a little end-of-the-month review with you so we can discuss what's working or not working πŸ€” Sound good? You're welcome to reply and tell me about what you've been up to! This month my theme was taking action + celebrating it as much as possible. A few months ago, I wouldn’t have had the capacity to: start selling consistently, show up on social media again, create new resources, or make decisions about pricing. It took time, patience, practice, and...

Hey Reader, I had a BEAUTIFUL burst of inspiration on Wednesday 😍 You know when you go to put some small tweaks on a bit of work... but then something clicks and you're like OH F*** YEAH and you spend the day redesigning the whole thing. This is what happened with my free content repurposing guide. I decided to watch Lizzy Goddard's "Clicks Don't Lie*" training. (*affiliate link.
