What's up Reader β I recently saw this post from social media coach Donavan Barrett (One of the few social media coaches I actually trust! π«’) He's talking about 3 different ways to stand out online, and why one particular way is best for most people. (Spoiler - that one particular way is being unique) I see so many of us hold ourselves back due to concerns about "overcrowding" Especially artists making a popular genre. Or those who wanna sell common items like sample packs or beats... I can absolutely see where this concern comes from. But in the grand scheme of things, I don't think "overcrowding" is the root issue. We're mainly facing the fact that at some point, we'll post something and nobody will listen. And also face the scariness of "taking up space" online π΅βπ« But even if you think your work has absolutely no chance of standing out, I have NO DOUBT that you can use *your* uniqueness to your advantage. Let's get on and look at these 3 approaches. β 1. The Excellence Route πBeing excellent means producing music or sharing advice that sets a new standard. Developing your skills so well that you become the go-to person in your niche. Like if you give the kind of advice that completely blows people's minds π€― Or if you're some kind of musical prodigy. This is um... not possible for most of us βΉοΈ There are already so many elite-level creatives out there. Trying to out-do them in order to stand out is not feasible. If you're relying on "becoming the best", it might be time to rethink your approach. β 2. The Magnetic Route π§²Some people have a naturally magnetic presentation that draws others in. Their charisma is enough to make people obsess over them. No matter what they post. But hereβs the thing: a lot of us struggle to bring out our personality in that way. It's a LOT of work to discover your core values and characteristics, and then translate those into a captivating online presence. These magnetic people aren't necessarily loud and extroverted. Anyone can learn to speak/type in a captivating way! However - I feel if you try to *chase* being magnetic, you'll end up feeling gross and inauthentic... β 3. The Unique Route βοΈThis is the magic one - because you don't have to chase it. Being unique means bringing a fresh perspective to your music and content. It could be that your work is unique, or YOU are unique. Or both! I'm assuming that if you're here, a lot of what you see online doesn't quite resonate with you. Now's your chance to make something that does! Everyone's got something that annoys them in the music niche. Share your opinions! Everyone has unique experiences from their life circumstances. Everyone has a unique assortment of things that inspire them. Everyone has unique tastes within their creativity. β TL;DR you don't have to chase something or become someone else in order to stand out. Use what you already got and talk about ittttttt π β Much love π«Άπ» Damon Siseman π± Stuff I'm Doing Recently π±6th November 2024 Links marked with an * are affiliate. β Find me on: Instagram | TikTokβ β More stuff from me!

Goooood morning Reader! Lately I've been doing some new things to reconnect with my creativity (it felt extremely lost the past few years π ) I've been spending time outside, touching/smelling/looking at plants and stuff to feel more grounded. I've also been playing with paints, pencils, and oil pastels just for funsies. Being online or working on computers, a lot of us are rarely doing stuff that is... physical. We don't really use our body much. (And I don't mean just in terms of exercise,...
How's it going Reader! I never expected I'd be able to use AI efficiently to help me with stuff. I was convinced that text-based AI like ChatGPT was just for churning out cringey slop. And considering the damage that image-generating AI has done to the digital art industry... I'd rather just avoid the whole lot. Evil stuff. But I definitely see the merit in using AI tools to help with tasks you otherwise struggle with. Especially as most of us are doing our creative work entirely on our own....
Happy Thursday Reader I want to get real technical and nerdy today. π€ Let's talk about the things you actually need when you're in the foundational stage of creative business. The internet loves to tell us that we should be making money immediately from our creative work. And that we're doing it wrong if we can't do that. Hmmm......... this is not reality for the majority of people. The foundational stage of a creative business can last months or even years. (It has indeed been years for me...
