creating online... very un-physical right? πŸ€”

Goooood morning Reader!

Lately I've been doing some new things to reconnect with my creativity (it felt extremely lost the past few years πŸ˜…)

I've been spending time outside, touching/smelling/looking at plants and stuff to feel more grounded.

I've also been playing with paints, pencils, and oil pastels just for funsies.

Being online or working on computers, a lot of us are rarely doing stuff that is... physical.

We don't really use our body much.

(And I don't mean just in terms of exercise, though that's important too!)

The body can end up being totally disconnected from our creative process and our day-to-day tasks.

I reckon there's something really valuable to be found in connecting more with the physical world.

My first experience of "digital creativity" was our trusty friend GarageBand. I loved it!

I also got into digital art about 5 years ago with a second-hand drawing pad and a copy of Clip Studio on my laptop. Seriously difficult to get started with, but fun!

I'd be confused when people talked about the benefits of "physical" mediums. Like hardware synthesizers, or real instruments, or proper paints.

Why use those when I could achieve a "good enough" effect on a computer?

I didn't want to have to buy more stuff just to create with 😭

I'm now finally, FINALLY, understanding what people mean when they say the process matters more than the outcome.

It's one of those "you'll understand when you're older" things that just takes time to realise.

Spending all day looking at screens does more than give me eye strain. It makes me get indescribably stressed and irritated (lol πŸ€ͺ)

Creating with physical stuff has a totally different feel like... a different sensory experience.

I'm wondering if there are other ways to turn online tasks into more physical experiences πŸ€”

Playing with paints is cool and all, but my work tasks are all on the computer.

(Is this why people have standing and walking desks πŸ˜‚)

I might try writing and planning things on paper. Seems a like a good next step!

What’s your favorite way to bring creativity into the physical world? You're welcome to reply and let me know!

A little business update:

If you’re a creative running an online business and struggling to communicate what you do in a way that feels natural (without the weird marketing persona act), I can help.

I have expanded my copywriting work to all creative businesses πŸ₯³

Which means I can write copy for you (that actually sounds like you).

Sales pages, newsletters, social media content, and more. You can focus on your fav creative tasks while I handle the words.

Much love,

Damon

How's it going Reader! I never expected I'd be able to use AI efficiently to help me with stuff. I was convinced that text-based AI like ChatGPT was just for churning out cringey slop. And considering the damage that image-generating AI has done to the digital art industry... I'd rather just avoid the whole lot. Evil stuff. But I definitely see the merit in using AI tools to help with tasks you otherwise struggle with. Especially as most of us are doing our creative work entirely on our own....

Happy Thursday Reader I want to get real technical and nerdy today. πŸ€“ Let's talk about the things you actually need when you're in the foundational stage of creative business. The internet loves to tell us that we should be making money immediately from our creative work. And that we're doing it wrong if we can't do that. Hmmm......... this is not reality for the majority of people. The foundational stage of a creative business can last months or even years. (It has indeed been years for me...

Hey Reader! Today I wanted to remind you that the great things you're envisioning for yourself are infinitely more important than your statistical "successes". I saw this YouTube Short recently. And I thought ough that's so real. Numbers follow us absolutely everywhere don't they... and most of the time they carry so much shame. They restrict us and keep us stuck! I'm always amazed by that type of person who is fueled by their own inner creative vision. Someone who doesn't let numbers get to...
