how to be more confident ⚡️

Hiiii Reader!

I don't know about you, but whenever I hear someone saying "create more than you consume" I'm just like oouuughhhh

Because they are very right to say that. But also sometimes I just cannot get off this thing 📲📲📲

I'm not here to get all negative about scrolling and make us all feel bad though.

I actually wanted to talk about how I'm on a Big Mission to have more self-confidence. Obviously a big part of that for us is going to be creativity and creative work.

(I'm also doing a video series on TikTok about this. I did name it "day X of" but then realised making a video every single day would be insane behaviour for me right now. So now that doesn't quite make sense. Whateva!)

When we spend time "consuming", we get a good look at all the amazing people and amazing stuff that's out there. That's a good thing!

I've found so much inspiration online. My photo gallery is stuffed with cool art and cool ideas. I've got many playlists of amazing music from artists of all sizes.

But when we overdo it, we go from "inspired" ➡️ "I can never be as good as them"

It's a tricky balancing act between getting inspired without getting bogged down in self-doubt.

When an idea is important to us, that's a lot of pressure to get it "right".

And it's even more pressure if we have our minds filled with other people's work that we've just looked at.

That pressure stops us from finishing projects. It makes them not fun anymore.

When we don't finish things, we lose the belief that we're capable of finishing things.

We start believing that we can't even start things. Our confidence goes 📉📉

On the other hand, it's wild how much confidence you can gain by completing things.

Tiny things, fun things, things that can't "go wrong".

Give yourself a confidence boost by feeling accomplished 😊

This weekend, I painted some fun fruit shapes. Now I'm adding some pencil to them as well.

There's much more I'd like to say on this topic, especially about positive self-image. Look forward to another email next week.

And if you want to reply and tell me what you made recently (or even just what you want to make 😛) I'd love to hear it.

Peace ✌🏻

Damon

What I'm doing...

This week I'm doing some music work which I haven't done in a while. Woo! I helped edit + put together this lofi sample pack, now doing another one :)

💭

What I'm thinking about...

I've just made myself a new Notion page for planning + tasks. It's the first planner that's actually made me feel MORE organised! Should I share the template with you? 🤔 (I don't think it's the planner itself that's working, but rather I'm figuring out a better work process).

✏️

What I'm recommending...

I've been enjoying this interview with bbno$, this guy has so much artistic wisdom and his career so far is insane.

Hiiiii Reader 👋🏻 Is it just me... or is everyone starting to sound the same 😐 A lot of my favourite creators and favourite newsletters are melting into a generic-sounding "voice". And it's because of AI content 😬 AI can sound "like you", but it doesn't necessarily feel like you. It uses characteristic phrases and sentence structures that I'm getting really bored of reading. ChatGPT is great. As someone who is easily stressed and struggles with planning and decision-making, it's so useful for...

Goooood morning Reader! Lately I've been doing some new things to reconnect with my creativity (it felt extremely lost the past few years 😅) I've been spending time outside, touching/smelling/looking at plants and stuff to feel more grounded. I've also been playing with paints, pencils, and oil pastels just for funsies. Being online or working on computers, a lot of us are rarely doing stuff that is... physical. We don't really use our body much. (And I don't mean just in terms of exercise,...

How's it going Reader! I never expected I'd be able to use AI efficiently to help me with stuff. I was convinced that text-based AI like ChatGPT was just for churning out cringey slop. And considering the damage that image-generating AI has done to the digital art industry... I'd rather just avoid the whole lot. Evil stuff. But I definitely see the merit in using AI tools to help with tasks you otherwise struggle with. Especially as most of us are doing our creative work entirely on our own....
